The spring in sweden!

We are looking for the spring in the nature. Here with Krtek and his Swedish friend Pigge

What is happening to the ice on the pond water when the sun shines on??

It melts and becomes water.
The children love to play in the water.

Time to eat.
We do fire and grill sausages.
We welcome the spring and sun!!

Finally the spring is here and we are able

to spend even moore time outside!

For example, the woods is perfect for doing math with all your senses

Here the kids have found one thing for every   finger they have on their hand etc.

Here they've found sticks that are as long as their feet!

These fallen trees is perfect for a pirateshipgame!
The kids had to work together for not loosing their balance.

The trees can also be dragons or a horse!

And sometimes its just fun to climb!
And why not build a bridge with fallen branches?

snow and ice in Sweden

Outdoor activities in the snow att Hagens Prästvägs förskola in Sweden.

During the last week we have had snow and ice in sweden . We have worked with the ice. One of the days we have taken the ice inside and explored what happens to it in the heat.
We are talking  about water and ice.  What happens if you put  water outside during the night when it is cold weather?
Yesterday we took with us paint and brushes and went for a walk to our pond with ice on.

It´s fun to run on the slippery ice.

Two friends in the forest. Cold but fun!

The Riddle of St. Ives

I met a man with seven wives
          Every wife had seven sacks
          Every sack had seven cats
          Every cat had seven kits
          Kits, cats, sacks, wives.
How many were going to St Ives?

All potential answers to this riddle are based on its ambiguity because the riddle only tells us the group has been "met" on the journey to St. Ives and gives no further information about its intentions, only those of the narrator. As such, any one of the following answers is plausible, depending on the intention of the other party:
  • 1: If the group that the narrator meets is assumed not to be travelling to St. Ives (this is the most common assumption),the answer would be one person going to St. Ives; the narrator.
  • 2802: If the narrator met the group as they were also travelling to St. Ives (and were overtaken by the narrator, plausible given the large size of the party), the answer in this case is all are going to St. Ives; see below for the mathematical answer.
  • 2800: If the narrator and the group were all travelling to St. Ives, the answer could also be all except the narrator and the man since the question is ambiguous about whether it is asking for the total number of entities travelling or just the number of kits, cats, sacks and wives. This would give an answer of 2,800 — 2 fewer than the answer above.
  • 2: Two is also a plausible answer. This would involve the narrator meeting the man who is assumed to be travelling to St. Ives also, but plays on a grammatical uncertainty, since the riddle states only that the man has seven wives (and so forth), but does not explicitly mention whether the man is actually accompanied by his wives, sacks, cats, and kittens.
  • 0: Yet another plausible is zero, once again playing on a grammatical uncertainty. The last line of the riddle states "kits, cats, sacks, wives ... were going to St. Ives?" Although the narrator clearly states he is going to St. Ives, by definition he is not one of the kits, cats, sacks, or wives, and based on the common assumption that the party was not going to St. Ives, the answer is zero.
  • 2753: The sacks are not a person or animal and therefore cannot be in the calculation. It was not the number of things, but of "persons" the narrator met. 49 adult cats 343 kittens per wife of whom he had seven (7 × 392) = 2744 plus the seven wives 2751 plus the man + the narrator → 2753 persons and animals.
  • 9: There are nine people involved, who may be going to St. Ives. The animals are all in the sacks, so they, as well as the sacks themselves, are "being taken", rather than "going".
  • 7: There are nine people involved, who are the only ones who may be going to St. Ives, all the others "being taken" there. But since the question is limited to "Kits, cats, sacks, wives", this excludes the man and the narrator, leaving seven.
Fun facts!

The riddle has been used in Die Hard as a chance to avoid a bomb to detonate!

The snow brings us new ways of learning!

The snow has fallen over Sweden and with snow comes play!

The kids love to ride "pulka" (sledding or toboggan in english) or "stjärtlapp" (Bumslider).

So the snow brings us exellent ways of Healthy Early Years Playful Science.

Sledding is not quite the accurate term, but it's the only translation we can find.

We say "åka pulka" in Swedish.

Bumsliding, or "åka stjärtlapp" as we say in Swedish!

Making Snowangels!

We also had another one of our station hours this week!

At the left we're playing "Under hökens vingar kom" wich is a swedish game where you'll avoid getting caught by the hawk as you run to the other side.

The snow is our canvas!

Trevlig helg! - Have a good weekend!

Stationhour at Billdalskyrkvägsförskola!

Billdals Kyrkvägs förskola has been certified with Green Flag, wich is a pedagogical tool for schools and preschools to work with sustainable development both in the classroom and our everyday living. Everyone at the preschool is involved in the work towards sustainable development. What we learn is put to use in our work every day. Themes in Grön Flagg:

  • Climate and energy
  • Consumption
  • Recycling
  • Health and lifestyle
  • Our closest environment
  • Water resources

As a way to reach our Grön Flagg goal, we have decided to have a "Stationstimme" wich means that we, once a month, plan an hour long station for the whole preschool that arouses curiosity amongst the children. Since we are 6 departments at the preschool, 3 of the departments each manages one station and the other 3 follows the children around and try to engage them in each station. This hour long activity is for the children to meet and discover together with children and adults from other departments. This is something every department works for every day but this hour is just another way of achiveing our goal.
The stations are:
  • Discover
  • Movements and
  • Creations.
Heres some pictures from the Stationstimme (Stationhour) we had yesterday!

Movement; Ring dance

Creation; Making art with  pinecones.
Discover; Can you find geometric shapes in the nature?

We finish the stationhour with fruit together.

Autumn in Sweden!

Today all our 5-year-olds took a walk to the forest. We have been looking for chestnuts that we collected and took with us home to the school.
When we go for a walk, we use our fine yellow vests.
At the end of the stay, we ate fruit, apple and banana.

Look at all my chestnuts.
